When deciding which size of glove to buy, it's important to consider two main factors: your weight class and the nature of training you plan to do with the gloves.
12-ounce boxing gloves
A lighter pair of gloves is recommended when you are focussing on pad work and technique. This weight is also commonly used for competition boxing.
If you are accustomed to wearing a heavier glove during training, wearing a lighter glove will make you move your hands faster.
14-ounce boxing gloves
Fighters will often choose a glove of this weight for sparring purposes because of the additional padding and support.
We'd recommend a 14 oz glove for use during training with heavy equipment. These gloves are ideal for hitting pads and during sparring practice. They also alleviate some of the impact if you're planning on sparring!
